Those B2B Kids!
May 3rd, 2007
“Those kids!” This is what one teacher said as Heather arrived into one classroom for a parent/teacher conference. Sounds a little ominous, doesn’t it?! “Uh-oh,” thought Heather, “Now what did they do?” But nothing could be further from the truth.
The teacher was referring to the collective group of students from the Back2Back campus that attend the same school. Heather shared with me how fun it was to see the reaction of this teacher and similar reactions from the other teachers as well. The teachers are overjoyed with the progress that the teens in B2B’s Hope Program are making in their education.
The teacher explained to Heather that unlike other similar groups of children in the school, the B2B kids really seem to want to study. They want to be there. It is obvious that they are putting their time in away from school, preparing and studying regularly. They have come to recognize the value of their education and are pursuing it with gusto.
This gave me pause and I thought of the countless numbers of people throughout the past decade who have given time, financial support, energy, love, prayers and more so that these children who previously had very little hope would be able today to turn hope into certainty. A huge part of B2B’s Hope Program is to provide children with an education, enabling them to work in fields of higher income and help to break the vicious cycle of poverty that devastates so many people here.
Currently, there are 18 teens in the Hope Program, and that number is going to explode in the next couple years. God is transforming lives through this ministry, through men and women like you who have offered themselves for His service to the orphans of the world. I look forward, as I am sure you do as well, to future reports, when the teacher tells a house parent, "Those kids!"
